Official Visit of the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff to Qatar
From Sunday 22 to Tuesday 24 September 2024, the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) General Dimitrios Houpis paid an official visit to Qatar at the invitation of his counterpart, Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Lieutenant General (Pilot) Salem bin Hamad Al Aqeel Al Nabet.
On Sunday 22 September 2024, the Chief of the HNDGS was received by the Greek Ambassador Mr. Ioannis Ioannidis at the Embassy of Greece in Qatar and had the opportunity to discuss with the Ambassador the relations between the two countries. While at the Embassy he also met with His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Qatar and discussed matters of mutual interest, with emphasis on the pastoral work of the Archdiocese.
On Monday 23 September 2024, the Chief of the HNDGS was officially received at the Qatari Ministry of Defence by his counterpart. Following the reception, the two Chiefs held a meeting during which they discussed issues of common interest, such as the current geopolitical situation and ways to deepen military cooperation between Greece and Qatar.
Soon after, the Chief of the General Staff visited the Al-Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al-Attiya Air College, where accompanied by his counterpart he met the Commandant of the School Maj. Gen. (Pilot) Salem bin Abdullah Al-Dosari, was shown around the premises and was briefed on the educational activities of the college.
The visit was concluded with a tour of the Qatar National Museum, where the Chief of the HNDGS was given the opportunity to become acquainted with the history and culture of the country.
