April 1, 2025, marks the 70th anniversary of the commencement of the EOKA struggle (1955–1959) against British colonial rule in Cyprus

For the first time, schools in Greece will hold nationwide commemorative events to honor the Cyprus Liberation Struggle 1955-1959.

The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports issued a circular announcing that schools across Greece will hold special events on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the start of Cyprus’s liberation struggle against British colonial rule.

These events aim to educate and raise awareness among students about this significant chapter in the history of Hellenism. Activities will include speeches, and presentations highlighting the historical importance of the Cypriot liberation movement and fostering historical memory among younger generations. ​
