Greek Frigate SPETSAI set sail for the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden where it will join EUNAVFOR ASPIDES forces.

The Minister of Hellenic National Defence, Nikos Dendias, went today, Friday, September 27, 2024, to the Salamis Naval Station, in order to visit the Frigate SPETSAI (F 453), shortly before it set sail for the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, where it will join EUNAVFOR ASPIDES.

During his visit, Nikos Dendias, accompanied by the Chief of the Hellenic National Defence General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis and the Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice-Admiral Dimitrios – Eleftherios Kataras, was informed by the Governor of the Frigate about its mission.

The Greek Minister of National Defense referred to the CENTAUR (KENTAVROS) anti-drone system developed by Hellenic Aerospace Industry.

“There is another element of pride for us, that Frigate PSARA successfully used the innovative anti-drone system CENTAUR developed by Hellenic Aerospace Industry. It is the first anti-drone system of this capability produced by our country and which it was exploited and tested for reliability in real combat conditions.

In a few days I will present to the Hellenic Parliament as a whole the anti-drone dome that will be created in our Homeland. “CENTAUR” is an important part of it. So the “CENTAUR” is with you, and I hope she will protect the ship and the ships accompanying you as successfully as she has done so far.”
