Major Arms Bust in Crete: Authorities Uncover Cache of Military-Grade Weapons and Explosives
Greek Police recently apprehended a 36-year-old man in Crete who was found in possession of significant military-grade weaponry and explosives. The confiscated items included a G3A4 rifle, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, as well as C4 explosives and TNT.
This incident is part of broader law enforcement efforts in Greece to combat organized crime and terrorism. Recent operations have uncovered significant amounts of explosives and firearms linked to criminal networks, indicating ongoing concerns about domestic terrorism and illegal arms trafficking in the region.
Details of the Seizure
Initially, in a house and warehouse owned by the 36-year-old, the following were found and seized:
- Kalashnikov and G3 A4 combat rifles
- hunting rifle
- 4 pistols
- 16 magazines
- keychain gun and plastic foldable gun in the shape of a mobile phone
- 8,431 cartridges of various calibers
- 1 grenade
- slow-burning fuse with built-in detonator
- 4 knives, 2 bayonets
- 1,550 grams of cocaine, 4 grams of cannabis
- 77 firecrackers, 3 naval flares, 5 sparklers
- 2 pepper sprays, 8 cleaning sprays and more
The Police located (24/1) a warehouse that the 36-year-old was renting and found in it:
- improvised explosive device consisting of 2 plates of C4 explosive, a detonator and a specially modified mobile phone, ready to use
- 270 grams of TNT explosive with a slow-burning fuse and built-in detonator, ready to use
- 6 detonators
- 3 grenades
- 2 standard packages of explosive emulsion with a total weight of 4,400 grams
- 2 instant wicks
- pistol and revolver full of cartridges
- 4 magazines
- 6,835 cartridges,
- 2 stocks, sub-guard and recoil spring of combat rifles
- 33 firecrackers
- nylon packages containing cocaine with a total gross weight of approximately 2.5 grams and 20 grams of processed cannabis
