A bomb explosion occurred outside the Hellenic Train offices on Syngrou Avenue in Athens on the night of April 11, 2025.
A terrifying incident unfolded late on the night of April 11, 2025, when a powerful explosion rocked the area outside the Hellenic Train offices on Syngrou Avenue, one of Athens‘ busiest streets.
The explosive device, whose exact mechanism and power remain unknown, was reportedly placed by an unidentified individual. According to sources within the Greek Police, the perpetrator had earlier warned about the bomb’s placement.
At around 8:53 PM, a phone call was made to zougla.gr, informing the imminent explosion. The caller clearly stated: “This is no prank,” confirming the seriousness of the threat.
The Police quickly mobilized their bomb disposal unit, the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team, but the explosion occurred before they could execute a controlled detonation.
According to the Greek Police, there are no injuries, and it is not yet known what damage was caused by the explosion, as the area has been cordoned off until the investigation. Six firefighters with two vehicles have also rushed to the scene.
The authorities are investigating the motives behind the attack. While it is too early to draw conclusions, experts are speculating that the bombing could be an act of terrorism.
