In Alexandroupolis, the Greek Coast Guard arrest a Turk who was in possession of 61 weapons, ammunition and explosives. The 55-year-old Turk had been declared missing in the SIRENE SIS database.
The Hellenic Coast Guard was informed (28/1) that a motorboat with a foreigner on board was sailing unmanned in the maritime area of Alexandroupolis. A Coast Guard patrol boat approached the spot and picked up the foreigner, who was safely disembarked at the port. Upon checking the above documents, it was found that he is a 55-year-old Turkish national, who had been declared missing in the SIRENE SIS database (SIRENE: Supplementary Information Request at the National Entries and SIS: Schengen Information System).
The 55-year-old Turk was taken to the Evros University General Hospital, where he remains for treatment under guard.
Following a search of his boat, 61 weapons of various calibers and types (handguns, pistols, revolvers, silencers, etc.) with various accessories were found, as well as 2,916 cartridges of various calibers and types, suitable for military use.
The seized weapons and the arrested person’s boat were sent for research and laboratory-crime tests. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Central Port Authority of Alexandroupolis.
