Frigate KIMON Participates in Exercise “SALAMIS” in Cyprus

A bilateral Search and Rescue (SAR) exercise between Cyprus and Greece, named “SALAMIS-01/26,” took place today, Sunday, March 8, 2026.

The exercise was conducted within the Search and Rescue Region of Responsibility of the Republic of Cyprus. Participants included:

  • The Frigate “KIMON” (F601) of the Hellenic Navy.
  • An AW139 helicopter from the 460 Search and Rescue Squadron of the National Guard.
  • A helicopter from the Cyprus Police Aviation Unit.

The exercise was coordinated by the Larnaca Search and Rescue Coordination Center (JRCC), in collaboration with the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (HNDGS) and the National Guard General Staff (GEEF).

This exercise is part of the existing Bilateral Search and Rescue Agreement between Cyprus and Greece.

Notably, today marked the first landing of a National Guard helicopter on the Frigate KIMON (F601).
