The strong tourism ties between Greece and Canada were officially reinforced today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Cooperation in Tourism.

This historic agreement marks the first time the two countries have formalized their collaboration in the tourism sector. The MoU was signed by Greece’s Minister of Tourism, Olga Kefalogianni, and Canada’s Ambassador to Greece, Anna-Karine Asselin.

The agreement paves the way for the exchange of knowledge and best practices in key areas such as:

  • Innovation and digitalization in tourism
  • Tourism investments and business opportunities
  • Education and vocational training for tourism professionals
  • Tourism promotion strategies
  • Research and development of new tourism products and services

Recognizing the growing impact of climate change on global tourism, Greece and Canada have agreed to collaborate on solutions that enhance resilience and sustainability in the sector. By sharing expertise and best practices, both countries aim to promote sustainable tourism development that balances economic growth with environmental responsibility.

Speaking on the significance of the agreement, Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni stated: “the new agreement confirms the will and commitment of Greece and Canada to promote a sustainable and innovative tourism model, strengthening cooperation at the institutional level and creating new opportunities for tourism development.”

This landmark agreement is expected to further boost bilateral tourism, attract new investments, and enhance the overall travel experience for visitors between Greece and Canada.
