GDNDPIR (GDAEE) visited Italy for bilateral meetings and collaborations in the field of armaments. See the agreements and initiatives.
The Director General of the General Directorate of Defense Armaments and Investments (GDNDPIR) of the Hellenic Ministry of Defense (MoD), Major General Ioannis Bouras and a delegation from GDNDPIR visited Italy (21-25/1/25).
During the visit to Italy, Major General Ioannis Bouras met with the Secretary General of Defence (SGD)/National Armaments Director, Lieutenant General Luciano Portolano. The Greek delegation also visited military installations, as well as leading companies in the Italian defence industry, such as Fincantieri, Leonardo and Elettronica.
Agreements and initiatives to strengthen cooperation
During the discussions between the GDNDPIR and the SGD, important agreements were reached aimed at further strengthening the defense cooperation between Greece and Italy. Specifically, it was agreed that:
- Continuation and increase of bilateral meetings to increase existing cooperation in the field of armaments.
- Organization of Industry Days with the participation of companies from the defense sector of both countries, in order to explore new opportunities for cooperation.
- Utilization of European tools, such as EDF (European Defence Fund), EDIS (European Defence Industrial Strategy) and EDIP (European Defence Industry Programme), to strengthen cooperation between Italian and Greek companies.
- Cooperation in future procurement and support services programs between the competent organizations of Greece and Italy (GDNDPIR and SGD).
- Participation of the Italian SGD and companies in the DEFEA 2025 exhibition, to be held in May in Athens.
- Conducting visits by the GDNDPIR to Italian weapons systems manufacturing, repair and support facilities.
At the same time, the General Director of GDNDPIR met and spoke with the Greek Ambassador to Italy, Eleni Sourani.
