Revival of the operation to destroy the Gorgopotamos bridge by the Special Forces of Greece and England
Executives of the Special Forces – Special Operations Forces (SF-SOF) of the Special Warfare Command (SWC) of the GEETHA and the Special Air Service (SAS) of the United Kingdom conducted joint training to revive the operation to destroy the Gorgopotamos bridge, which took place on November 25 1942.
The joint training of faculty and SAS under the name HARLING DROP included the realization of a 50 km march, on the route of the mountainous region of Fthiotida which was used during the execution of the operation with the code name Harling, for the promotion of Greek and British Commandos to Gorgopotamos by the Second World War.
The joint training of faculty and SAS lasted from November 22 to November 26, 2022.
It is recalled that this year marks 80 years since the blowing up of the bridge in Gorgopotamos by the guerrilla groups of Napoleon Zervas and Aris Velouchiotis with the cooperation of English saboteurs.
As a result of the blowing up of the bridge, the supply of the German forces in North Africa was cut off for six crucial weeks.
